The Anabat Scout Bat Detector from Titley Scientific is a return to basics but with a modern slant for today's professional ecologist.
In the field…
It's a simple, robust handheld unit with full spectrum recording and a heterodyne output function so you can hear the bats via the speaker or headphones.
A basic display for field use means fewer distractions while out and about. For example, call frequency is displayed, rather than complex spectrogram. But the Anabat Scout isn't collecting just the basics. It's a full spectrum bat detector, storing information onto its SD card for review back at base, whether that's for viewing waveforms, listening to sonograms or tracking the ecologist's movements.
Powered by …
Two AA batteries (rather than a rechargeable unit). If a battery goes flat it's a simple swap out instead of having to return to base (or the car) for a recharge. Either disposable or rechargeable batteries will do (although we recommend the latter).
There's a bat counter feature for the ecologist to hit the in or out button each time a bat enters or exits the roost. Meanwhile, the built-in GPS records the ecologist's location during the session.
To sum up…
The Anabat Scout collects the data you’d expect, but with none of the distractions while out in the field.
