The Eco Bat Shelter has primarily been designed for installation within buildings and structures to provide a winter hibernation roost space. It provides a wedge-shaped crevice, ideally suited for a wide range of bats to use over winter. The bat shelter can be placed in frost free locations such as cellars, tunnels, bridges, unheated loft spaces and other locations where a roost space is required. The innovative design is based on advice from licensed bat workers. It combines a plastic outer (for thermal insulation) with a ceramic insert (providing thermal inertia and good footholds) which stabilise the humidity and temperature of the microclimate within the roost space.
Requires no maintenance. Constructed from a combination of recycled plastic and a ceramic insert held together with stainless steel staples, meaning it is impervious to damp and ideally suited to areas with high humidity as favoured by bats during hibernation. When occupied, bat droppings will simply fall out, and it can be easily checked with a torch, causing minimal disturbance to the bats.
Lightweight and easy to install, the Eco Bat Shelter has four screw holes to enable it to be fixed to a concrete, brick, stone or wooden wall. It is available in a choice of 2 colours, black or brick. On uneven walls and if gaps are present around the edges of the shelter, silicone or foam strips can be used to seal edges to reduce the likelihood of draughts in the box, making the shelter more attractive to bats.
