Designed to outwit the local foxes and cats, this Hedgehog Feeding Station ensures hedgehog food is just for the hedgehogs.
The narrow entrance tunnel (14.5 x 13.5 cm), which includes two turns, makes it very difficult for anything larger than a hedgehog to access the food inside. The feeding chamber is a generous 43 cm x 28 cm giving plenty of space for dishes for water and food and even several hedgehogs to feed at once. The feeding compartment has a large door which slides out making it easy to put in the food and clean the box out if the hedgehogs make a mess.
Manufactured from eco-friendly UV stable 100% recycled plastic, the feeding station requires almost no maintenance and has an extremely long life expectancy. Simple to clean using just warm water, there is nothing to corrode or rot. Can be left outside throughout the year in all weather conditions.
Black, with an attractive green wrap-over roof, the feeding station is flat packed and slotted together using a clever tab system, with no fixings or hinges.
Dimensions: 33 x 46 x 51 cm
The hedgehog house should be placed in a quiet, sheltered area and ideally covered with dried leaves, twigs and other vegetation. Add some hay or dry leaves inside for the hedgehogs to make their nest with.
You can check if a house is occupied by placing something light in front of the entrance - if it is moved overnight then the house is in use.
Take care not to disturb the house during the summer - if it is being used as a nursery the female could abandon the nest.
If the house has is unoccupied after winter use (lat March to early April) you can clean it. If you treat the house for fleas make sure only to use organic Pyrethrum powers suitable for birds. Dog and cat treatments are too strong and may kill a hedgehog.
Hedgehogs will enjoy supplementary feeing. If you can't find specialist hedgehog food at your local garden centre you can substitute wet or dried cat food. And don't forget to provide a bowl of fresh water for your hogs!
