The Schwegler 1FS Colony Bat Box is designed to accommodate large bat colonies, providing a spacious interior with multiple roosting options. It is commonly used as a summer and transitional roost, with internal features that support colony formation and maternity use.
The interior includes three layers of grooved wooden panels on the front and a special insulated clinging panel on the roof, offering a variety of roosting and gripping positions.

Species Suitability
Suitable for large colonies, including species such as noctule bats, common pipistrelle and brown long-eared bats. Maternity roosts of 70–100 individuals have been recorded.
Siting & Installation
Designed for installation on trees, particularly in woodland or forestry settings. The box is supplied with mounting blocks and aluminium nails for fixing.
Maintenance
Regular removal of droppings is recommended where occupancy is high. This can also help assess usage of the box. Any inspection should only be carried out by a licensed bat worker.

SPECIES: This type of box is readily used for forming large colonies, especially by Common Noctule Bats, Daubenton’s Bats and Brown Long-Eared Bats. Nursery roosts with between 70 and 100 animals (including Noctule Bats) are common.
SITING: Attach to a tree using the mounting block and aluminium nails (included)
MAINTENANCE: Regular removal of the droppings is recommended in case of high occupancy figures. It is also useful for estimating the occupancy and acceptance of the box.
