Swallows readily adopt these nest cups because they mimic the size and shape of natural swallow nests. They provide somewhere secure for swallows to nest.
Swallows are sociable birds but the nest cups should not be placed too close together.
Why are nest boxes important?
Natural nest sites are being lost having devastating consequences for bird species. Birds are an essential component of functioning ecosystems and have a direct impact on human populations and millions of other species. It is therefore important to provide our feathered friends with a home.
MATERIAL: Recycled LDPE plastic backboard with resin/concrete nest cup
CONSTRUCTION: Nest cup fixed to backboard with stainless steel screws
DIMENSIONS (MM): 150 x 270 x 90
WEIGHT (KG): 0.9
SITING: 2 keyholes and further fixing hole at the base for added stability. The nest cup is ideal for placing in garages, sheds, stables, barns, or even beneath archways.
The nest cup is easy to fix to your wall, it slots over two screws with a third hole at the base for securing it in place. Removal for cleaning after the breeding season is also easy, simply undo the screw at the base and lift it off.
A minimum distance of 1m between nest cups is suggested. To ensure the swallows have sufficient room in the nest cup and when arriving and leaving there should be at least 6cm free space above the nest cup. When choosing a suitable spot for the nest it is essential that birds have constant access throughout the breeding season.
MAINTENANCE: End of season cleaning
