This optional back plate, when fitted to the 1FE bat access panel, provides a standalone bat box. The wooden panel creates a cavity inside the box. The woodcrete shell and the wooden panel are both roughened to help the bats gain a foothold (clawhold?) inside.

The unit is maintenance free as droppings run down the sloped entrance hole and fall away.

Fixing is simple – there are two pre-drilled holes at the front of the unit and in the back plate.

Two screws (not supplied) are passed through these holes to fix the unit to an exterior wall. With a depth of just 10cm, the unit can easily be integrated into the building and rendered. It can also be painted with an air-permeable exterior paint.

One more thing to know – the bat box is made from Schwegler’s Woodcrete, a tough, weather-resistant blend of wood and concrete that will last for years and won’t rot, warp, crack or leak. Woodcrete is breathable/porous, so it maintains a stable temperature inside and also provides a rough surface for the bats to cling to. Combine all this with a box design that prevents water entering it and you have a unit that will protect bats for decades.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Bats are a schedule 1 protected species under the Wildlife & Countryside Act. It is illegal for any member of the public to disturb a roost, handle or kill any bat. Bat boxes, therefore, may only be inspected by a licensed bat worker. However, you can monitor your bat box without disturbance, look for mouse-sized droppings beneath the box as a clue to occupation or observe from a distance at dusk to see if bats are exiting the box to hunt.

Mounting
Built-in or fixed to an exterior wall.
We recommend a ladder to install the unit at the top of the building (at least 3 meters above ground). This means the panel is more likely to be safe from tampering. Do bear in mind that the combined weight of the back panel and the 1FE unit is 8kg.

Aspect:
The ideal aspect is so the box receives some sun during the day. If it is on an existing feeding or flight route, you are more likely to get usage.
Please ensure unobstructed approach and departure.

Cleaning:

None required as droppings fall away through the front opening of the main unit.

Free delivery is within three working days of the order being placed, although in a lot of cases it can be as soon as next day.

Whilst every effort to ensure the products received are as you expect, we fully acknowledge that on occasion, this is not always the case.

Refunds policy

Your payment will be refunded in full, including basic shipping, once the goods have been returned. However, we may make a deduction from your refund if the value of the goods has been reduced as a result of you handling them more than was necessary. The extent to which a customer can handle the goods is the same as it would be if you were assessing them in a shop – for example goods should be unused and in their original, unopened packaging.
