Field Sampling Protocol
Dropping samples should be collected using the biodegradable spatula provided to avoid contamination. Care should be taken to avoid breaking droppings during collection.
If droppings of various age are present, select those that appear most recent and most intact.
Only a single dropping should be collected in a sampling tub. We recommend submitting replicate samples for analysis.
Where it is believed that different species are present of droppings are present in different locations, these should be treated as separate samples and collected using a clean spatula to avoid cross-contamination. If possible avoid collection from a pile of droppings when they are in close contact with each other.
Note that each of the sampling tubes are uniquely labelled. Ensure that you keep clear records of where and when you collected each sample.
Ensure your samples are packaged according the the instructions provided.
Samples should be despatchd to the lab as soon as possible. If this cannot be done immediately then they should be stored in a cool dry place. Freezing or refrigeration is not necessary. Avoid exposing the samples to sunlight and high temperatures.
IMPORTANT: WHEN RETURNING SAMPLES TO APPLIED GENOMICS PLEASE COMPLETE THE SAMPLE SUBMISSION CHECKLIST AND SAMPLE SUBMISSION FORM. FOLLOW THE RETURN INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.
