A suitable nest box for robins, which is also ideal for other birds that use open-fronted boxes.

or

The robin box is an open-fronted nest box. It combines the best properties of recycled plastic and wood to create a unique and innovative box that will last for years whilst providing a comfortable bird nest box.

Key Features:

  • Unique robust long-lasting construction
  • Designed in the UK by professional ecologists
  • Easy to maintain; simply slide the nesting chamber out
  • Weatherproof, UV-stabilised outer shell
  • FSC Certified OSB inner made from wood waste

Occupants: As well as providing a suitable nest box for robins, it’s also ideal for other birds that use open-fronted boxes such as wrens, pied wagtails, and spotted flycatchers.

Why are nest boxes important?

Natural nest sites are being lost having devastating consequences for bird species. Birds are an essential component of functioning ecosystems and have a direct impact on human populations and millions of other species. It is therefore important to provide our feathered friends with a home.

MATERIAL: Recycled LDPE plastic outer with internal FSC Certified OSB nesting chamber

CONSTRUCTION: Outer recycled plastic panels fitted together using integral tabbing system. Internal nesting chamber stapled together

DIMENSIONS (MM): 260 x 170 x 170

WEIGHT (KG): 0.8

SPECIES: Robins, wrens, pied wagtails, and spotted flycatchers.

SITING: 3 concealed keyholes and further fixing hole at the base for added stability if needed

Place 1-2 metres high, out of direct sunlight and facing away from driving wind and rain. This will mean facing the box between the north and the east. Make sure that the birds have a clear flight path to the nest without any clutter directly in front of the entrance, however, ensure the box is surrounded by foliage.

Fixing to the wall or tree is easy, with three concealed mounting holes in the back of the box. Often this is the only fixing needed, but a further hole is provided at the base for use when necessary. It is also a good idea to tilt the nesting box slightly forward when fixing somewhere. The reason for this is to allow any rain that does fall on the box to drain off, instead of trickling inside the box.

MAINTENANCE: If you need to check or clean the box it is simply a case of twisting the fastening at the bottom and the wooden nesting chamber slides out.
