Schwegler 3FF Bat Colony Box With Inspection Hatch
The Bat Box 3FF, developed on the basis of the very popular 1FF Bat Box in order to satisfy your practical requirements of self-cleaning, universal use, and easy inspection. In cold weather, bats can move closer together and on hot days there is sufficient space for them to spread themselves out. In the late summer, the enlarged interior volume is an advantage, especially as a transition and mating roost or for larger groups of female bats that convene in nursery roosts.
Key Features:
- For cave roosting species that need space
- Occupants can move between hanging zones
- Depending on temperatures bats change position
- Hatch allows inspection without opening the panel
Why do we need to protect bats?
Bats play an important role within our environment. As well as performing some pollination, bats are a natural control of insect populations as these are their main food source. Bats are also a good indicator species of environmental health, with changes in populations reflecting local biodiversity.
Bats are a schedule 1 protected species under the Wildlife & Countryside Act. It is illegal for any member of the public to disturb a roost, handle or kill any bat. Bat boxes therefore may only be inspected by a licensed bat worker. However, you can monitor your bat box without disturbance, look for mouse-sized droppings beneath the box as a clue to occupation or observe from a distance at dusk to see if bats are exiting the box to hunt.
MATERIAL: Woodcrete
