The KS dormouse nest boxes provide a long-lasting refuge for both the hazel (common) dormouse (choose 2KS) and its larger cousins the edible, European, forest and garden dormice (choose KS1).
The access hole faces the tree trunk, discouraging birds from using the nest and providing protection from predators. Made from Schwegler's patented wood-concrete mix, this box will provide a more stable internal temperature than wooden boxes. The special hanger design and aluminium nail protects commercial timber and means the trunk cannot grow over the hanger.
Install at a height of 1.5-3 m against tree trunks with a 20-30cm diameter, so that the distance between the back of the box and the tree trunk is no more than 2.5cm. Inspection and cleaning is via the removable front panel. During winter cleaning take care not to disturb hibernating animals. Hazel (common) dormice are a European Protected Species and must not be distrubed at any time of year without a licence.
