Vivara Pro Built-In WoodStone Swift Box - Small

The Vivara Pro Built-In WoodStone Swift Box - Small provides a durable, integrated nesting space for swifts within the fabric of a building. It is designed for use in new-build projects and renovation work, particularly in high, hard-to-access locations such as beneath eaves or in gable ends.

Made from WoodStone®, a wood-concrete material, the box offers long-term protection from predators and helps buffer the nest chamber against temperature extremes. Once installed, it is maintenance-free, making it suitable for sites where future access may be difficult.

The box is designed to be built into walls with narrow cavities. It sits on the outer wall, with approximately 55mm extending into the cavity. Where the cavity is 100mm or greater, insulation can usually continue behind the block to help avoid creating a thermal bridge.

Siting & Installation

This swift box is designed to be built into a wall, with the block sitting on the outer wall and approximately 55mm projecting into the cavity. It can be used where there is a narrow cavity, and where the cavity is 100mm or more there should still be space for insulation behind the block. If insulation needs to be cut away, it should be cut neatly around the circumference of the block.

The box can also be used in rendered walls. When rendering, use a former or spacer to ensure the entrance hole remains clear and is not blocked or reduced in size.

For best results, install the box on the north or east side of the building, preferably in the gable end around three brick courses below the top. It should be installed at a height of 5m or more, with a clear flight path and no trees or large shrubs directly in front of the entrance.

Swifts prefer to nest in colonies, so installing several boxes together is recommended. Leave at least 40cm between each nest box.

Maintenance

This integrated swift box does not require cleaning. Swifts will remove excess nesting material themselves, including material left by other birds such as house sparrows.
