The Causa Maternity Bat Box is a large-capacity bat box designed to provide a warm, sheltered roosting space for crevice-roosting bats. With four internal chambers and an extra-large interior, it is particularly suited to maternity use where bats require more space during the breeding season.
The box is painted black to help absorb warmth from the sun, creating a warmer roosting environment. The rough-textured internal ladder helps bats grip and climb into the roosting chambers, while the sloped roof allows rainwater to run off.
The Causa Maternity Bat Box can be installed on sturdy trees or building façades, depending on the species present locally and the surrounding habitat.

Suitable Species
Use will depend on the bat species present locally and where the box is installed.
When installed on buildings, the Causa Maternity Bat Box may be suitable for Common Pipistrelle, Nathusius’ Pipistrelle and Soprano Pipistrelle.
When installed on trees, it may be suitable for Common Pipistrelle, Nathusius’ Pipistrelle, Soprano Pipistrelle, Whiskered Bat, Brandt’s Bat, Common Noctule, Lesser Noctule and Brown Long-eared Bat.
When installed in attics or stables, it may be suitable for Common Pipistrelle, Whiskered Bat and Brown Long-eared Bat.
This box is not suitable for damp basements or bunkers.
Siting & Installation
For best results, install the box on a sturdy tree or building façade where bats have been seen or are known to feed. Position it as high as possible, at a minimum height of 3m, with a clear flight path for access.
Choose a sheltered, sunny position, ideally south or south-west facing, so the box receives a few hours of sun during the day. Do not place the box directly under artificial light or where rain can directly enter the roost.
Where possible, site the box near a wet area such as a pond or marshy habitat, as these areas can attract the insects bats feed on and provide a drinking source.
Preferably install several bat boxes together to provide a choice of roosting conditions.
The box is hung using the supplied screws. A keyhole fixing point on the back allows the box to hook onto the mounted screw, while the pre-drilled hole in the landing board allows it to be secured in place.

SITING: For best results, we recommend you site your bat box:
- In a sturdy tree or building façade where bats have been seen or are known to feed.
- As high as possible (at least 3m), with a clear 'flight-path' for access.
- Preferably hang several boxes together.
- In a sheltered area, ideally south or southwest facing to ensure a few hours of sun.
- Do not place the cabinet under or in artificial light.
- Avoid placing where the rain can directly access the box.
- Near a wet area, such as a pond or marshy environment which will attract the insects favoured by bats and also provides somewhere for them to drink.
Hang the bat box with the supplied screws. In the back of the box, there is a "keyhole" where the mounted screw can be hooked. The pre-drilled hole in the landing board allows you to secure the bat box.
