This low cost net is ideal for schools as the price allows you to buy enough for a whole class activity. It is lightweight enough for small children to handle but is constructed from the same material that we use for our professional nets.
The wooden handle is 300mm long and 25mm in diameter making it comfortable and easy to grip for small hands. It also has a wrist strap. The net frame is 125mm wide and the mesh is fine and lightweight polyester making it ideal for butterflies and other insects.

Sweep netting is an excellent educational activity for schools & study centers. Use in conjunction with bug viewers to make a study of what you have caught.
These nets are also strong enough for professional entomology use. The flat front bar is much more effective for collecting insects than a round net. In long grass, slowly walk forwards with the net perpendicular to your body and make a figure of 8 sweep with the net approx 100-150 mm below the grass tips. Alternatively, make sweeps from the left, then turn the net and sweep to the right, whilst you are moving steadily forward.
To retain the catch, lift the net horizontally, shake, then turn the handle through 45 degrees so the net bag folds down to one side.
