House martins nest on the external walls of buildings, but usually require the protection of overhanging eaves. This nest has its own integrated roof, allowing martins to use any external faꞔade, regardless of whether or not there are eaves.

Occupants: House Martins.

Why are nest boxes important?

Natural nest sites are being lost having devastating consequences for bird species. Birds are an essential component of functioning ecosystems and have a direct impact on human populations and millions of other species. It is therefore important to provide our feathered friends with a home.

MATERIAL: Durable, weather-resistant, and air-permeable SCHWEGLER wood-concrete, painted in a light grey colour. All the metal parts have been rustproofed.

DIMENSIONS (MM): 430 x 175 x 175

WEIGHT (KG): 6.3

SPECIES: House Martin

SITING: On an unobstructed external façade without an overhanging roof, or alternatively, directly under overhanging eaves. House Martins always nest on the outside and never on the inside of buildings. Install on the sheltered side of the building. Screws and plugs supplied.

Height above ground: At least 2 m or above.

MAINTENANCE: Both of the nest bowls can be completely removed from the base. The principle is the same as that for No. 9A. They are removed by undoing the screws holding the nest (see Fig. 1). This gives a clear view of the entire nest-bowl. Following cleaning the nest bowl is reinserted (see Fig. 2) and secured (see Fig. 3).

House martins always next on the outside of a building, so site on an unobstructed external facade, underneath the eaves where present.

The nest should be fixed away from prevailing weather and at a minimum of 2m from the ground.

For cleaning, the nest bowls can be completely removed from the surround simply by undoing the retaining screws.
