Orlando Swift Nest Box

Swifts are closely linked to buildings and are most often seen in towns and cities. They use small gaps and cavities in walls and eaves, and often return to the same nest sites each summer. Because these nesting spots can be used year after year, protecting and replacing them where needed is important.

The Orlando Swift Box is a single-compartment nest box designed to provide a secure nesting space for swifts. It is also suitable for house sparrows and starlings.

The box is made from wood-based concrete. This is a long-lasting material that combines concrete with wood fibres, helping to keep the box lighter than standard concrete while providing a more stable internal climate.

The Orlando can be hung on an external wall or built into an outside wall, depending on the site. Fixings are included. The box also includes a screw fixing so that it can be opened when needed.

The box is ideally installed around 6 to 7 metres above ground, with a clear approach to the entrance. Swifts need space to drop out from the entrance before taking flight. The front panel can be removed for inspection or cleaning, although this is not always necessary. If you choose to paint the box, use a breathable external masonry paint.
