Why do we need to protect bats?
Bats play an important role within our environment. As well as performing some pollination, bats are a natural control of insect populations as these are their main food source. Bats are also a good indicator species of environmental health, with changes in populations reflecting local biodiversity.
Bats are a schedule 1 protected species under the Wildlife & Countryside Act. It is illegal for any member of the public to disturb a roost, handle or kill any bat. Bat boxes therefore may only be inspected by a licensed bat worker. However, you can monitor your bat box without disturbance, look for mouse-sized droppings beneath the box as a clue to occupation or observe from a distance at dusk to see if bats are exiting the box to hunt.

COLOUR: 1FR is delivered in “natural grey”. It can be painted at any time with standard breathable façade paint.
SPECIES: A summer roost for bat species that inhabit buildings.
SITING: Install in façades (brick-in or render-in), in concrete (for example, in bridge structures), or retrofit under weather-boarding during renovation work, etc. If fitted to a wall then brackets must be used (not supplied). We recommend fitting at least 3m above the ground, so a ladder will be needed. The ideal aspect is so the box receives at least some sun during the day. If it is on an existing feeding or flight route you are more likely to be occupied.
MAINTENANCE: This Bat Tube is maintenance-free, as the droppings can fall slowly downwards, via the special droppings chute.
NOTE: There are two versions. This 1FR bat tube is a single, standalone unit. The 2FR is designed as a modular unit with interconnecting holes so that it can create larger spaces with transverse connections.
