This Schwegler No 17 Swift box is a simple but effective design of the swift box that can be fixed to the outside of buildings or incorporated directly into the wall. The circular entrance block can be removed for cleaning.

This model has been used very successfully throughout Europe for 30 years and is made from vegetable fiber-reinforced concrete, ideally suited for installation on low-strength façades.

The Swift box is supplied with a u-shaped, flexible hanger made from a perforated steel strip and fixing materials, but it can also0 be plastered into the masonry without the hanger.

  • External diameter: H 15 x D 21 x L 34 cm
  • Internal brood chamber: H 14 x D 20 x L 30 cm
  • Weight: approx 4.8kg

Siting:
At least 6 to 7 m above the ground. Please ensure unobstructed access for birds entering and leaving the box. Swifts nest in colonies so it is preferable to install several nest boxes together.

Positioning:

High up on external walls of buildings of all kinds, including churches and industrial buildings, preferably under the shelter of eaves or overhanging roofs. Can also be successfully installed on steep rock faces. A clear distance (drop) below the box is recommended, preferably 5 m or more.
Fixing bracket included.

Cleaning:

The box can be easily opened by rotating the circular plate containing the entrance hole by 90° and removing it. Swift nests are always located in the darkest corner as far away from the entrance hole as possible. Cleaning is easy and convenient with this box but is not essential.
