The Eco Starling Nest Box provides a robust, long-lasting, and comfortable home for starlings. It is recommended that you place a few of these boxes on adjacent trees or buildings to encourage a loose colony to form.

Key Features:

  • FSC Certified OSB inner made from wood waste
  • Easy to maintain
  • UV stabilised recycled plastic weatherproof outer shell

Why are nest boxes important?

Natural nest sites are being lost having devastating consequences for bird species. Birds are an essential component of functioning ecosystems and have a direct impact on human populations and millions of other species. It is therefore important to provide our feathered friends with a home.

MATERIAL: Recycled LDPE plastic outer with internal FSC Certified OSB nesting chamber

CONSTRUCTION: Outer recycled plastic panels fitted together using an integral tabbing system. Internal nesting chamber stapled together

DIMENSIONS (MM): 350 x 200 x 18

ENTRANCE (MM): 40, 45

WEIGHT (KG): 1.7

SPECIES: Starling

SITING: 3 concealed keyholes and further fixing holes at the base for added stability if needed.

Starlings tend to favour higher nest sites so when putting up these boxes it is best (though not essential) that they are placed 2.5m or higher above the ground on a building or tree. Starlings nest in loose colonies so if you are able to put up a few boxes in a group on adjacent trees or buildings you may well find a colony building up and occupying all your boxes.

Fixing to the wall or tree is easy with three concealed mounting holes in the back of the box (located opposite the entrance hole for easy access). Often this is the only fixing needed, but a further hole is provided at the base for use when necessary. The easiest way to mount the box is to remove the inner, fix the outer shell onto the tree, wall etc. then slide the inner roost chamber back into the box and secure it in place.

MAINTENANCE: If you need to check or clean the box it is simply a case of twisting the fastening at the bottom and the wooden nesting chamber slides out.
