Green&Blue Bird Block
The Green&Blue Bird Block is a built-in nest box designed to encourage nesting by small cavity-nesting garden birds. It is suitable for blue tits and other similar species, and can be incorporated directly into the walls of new buildings or fixed to existing walls using the rear fixing points.
Designed and made in the UK by Green&Blue, the Bird Block provides a durable, long-lasting nesting space while helping to create room for wildlife within the built environment. Nesting birds can be observed returning to feed their young during the breeding season, offering a rewarding way to connect with nature.
Suitable Species
This nest box is suitable for small cavity-nesting birds commonly found in the UK, including:
- Blue tit
- Great tit
- Coal tit
- Marsh tit (in suitable habitats)
- Willow tit (where present)
Design & Use
The Bird Block features a small entrance designed to deter larger birds and predators while allowing access for target species. Its standard UK block size allows it to replace a conventional block when built into masonry, without altering the appearance or structure of a wall.
Construction & Installation
The Bird Block can be built directly into brickwork using mortar, in place of a standard brick or block. It can also be surface-mounted onto existing walls using the rear fixing points and a compatible fixing kit.
For best results, the Bird Block should be installed at least 2 metres above ground level, ideally on a north- or east-facing wall. It should be positioned away from doors, windows and vents to minimise disturbance to nesting birds.
Maintenance
Cleaning should only be carried out outside the nesting season, between September and January. Old nesting material and debris can be removed before replacing the front panel. Only attempt maintenance where safe access is available and with appropriate assistance.
