Great Crested Newt eDNA Collection Kit

These Great Crested Newt eDNA sampling kits are designed to comply with the protocol outlined in DEFRA WC1067. Each kit contains everything required to collect a water sample from a pond up to one hectare. Additional kits are required for larger waterbodies.

What is included?

• 1x tube holder box insert
• 1x pair of sterile gloves
• 1x 15ml Pasteur pipette
• 1x sample collection bag
• 1x 30ml ladle
• 1x Great Crested Newt collection form and sampling instructions
• 6x 50ml centrifuge tubes (each containing 35ml DNA preservative solution)

How it works

1. Purchase your sampling kit from Wildcare. If you require additional sampling components, see our eDNA Refill Kit.

2. Collect your samples. For results to be accepted by Natural England, sampling must take place between 15th April and 30th June. Positive results outside this period confirm presence, but negative results should be treated as inconclusive. Sampling must be carried out by a licensed Great Crested Newt surveyor following DEFRA WC1067 guidance.

3. Submit your samples for laboratory testing by purchasing the eDNA Analysis Service and returning your kit as instructed.
