The Hedgehog Link is a simple, durable way to help reconnect gardens and green spaces, creating vital foraging and nesting routes for hedgehogs. Designed to be fitted into fences or garden walls, it allows hedgehogs to move freely between spaces that would otherwise be blocked.
Hedgehog numbers in the UK have declined significantly in recent decades, with habitat fragmentation identified as a major factor. Hedgehogs can travel up to around 2 km each night in search of food, mates and nesting sites, and barriers such as solid fences and walls can severely limit their movement. Creating access points between gardens is one of the most effective actions individuals can take to support local populations.
Design & Use
The Hedgehog Link is designed to fit neatly into a pre-cut opening in a fence or wall, providing a clear and accessible route for hedgehogs while maintaining the structure of the boundary. As well as improving connectivity for wildlife, it can act as a visible reminder and talking point within the local community, encouraging wider participation.
Construction & Installation
The unit is intended to be installed within a hole cut into a fence or garden wall. Once fitted, it creates a permanent access point that will not rot, rust or deteriorate over time, unlike timber or metal alternatives.
