House Martin Colony Wall-Mounted Nest Box
The House Martin Colony Wall-Mounted Nest Box provides a ready-made nesting structure for house martins, supporting colony formation on building facades. Designed for mitigation and compensation projects, it offers nine pre-assembled artificial nesting bowls within a single wall-mounted unit.
Positioned correctly, the unit allows house martins to establish or expand colonies at a chosen location. It is most effective when installed close to an existing colony, as house martins are more likely to discover and use new nesting opportunities in familiar areas.
The structure is built around a metal frame and finished with exterior plywood. It is treated with a spray cork layer and finished in Ecolabel paint (RAL 9010). The roof is covered with black roofing leather for weather protection.

If no colony is present nearby, the likelihood of occupation is reduced. Lure calls may increase awareness but do not guarantee use.
Maintenance
The artificial nests are fixed in place and cannot be removed. If necessary, some nesting material can be removed through the entrance opening, particularly if sparrows have occupied the nests. Otherwise, the unit requires minimal maintenance. Repainting may be undertaken after several years if required.
