The Chillon WoodStone Bat Box is a robust, crevice-style roost designed to support small groups of bats in a wide range of habitats. With its deep internal chamber and thermally stable construction, it provides an ideal space for summer roosting, breeding and occasional shelter during mild winters.
Designed to replicate natural crevices found in buildings and trees, the Chillon offers a secure and stable environment for species such as pipistrelles and other small bat species commonly found in the UK.

Material & Construction
Manufactured from WoodStone® – a blend of FSC-certified wood fibres and concrete – this bat box offers excellent thermal properties while remaining breathable and highly durable. This helps maintain a stable internal climate, which is essential for successful roosting and breeding.
Species Suitability
Suitable for a range of UK bat species depending on location, including common pipistrelle, soprano pipistrelle and Nathusius’ pipistrelle. It may also be used by other crevice-dwelling species such as whiskered, Brandt’s and brown long-eared bats in appropriate settings.
Siting & Installation
- Install on buildings or mature trees
- Position in a sunny location, sheltered from strong winds and direct rain
- Avoid areas exposed to artificial lighting
- Mount at a minimum height of 3 metres
- Ensure a clear flight path to the entrance
- For best results, install multiple boxes with varying aspects
The box is supplied with fixings and features a keyhole mounting system for straightforward installation, with an additional fixing point for added stability.
Maintenance
The Chillon Bat Box requires minimal maintenance. If needed, it can be cleaned annually during winter when unoccupied. All inspections should be carried out by a licensed bat worker in accordance with wildlife legislation.

SITING:
The bat box can be placed on both a tree or a façade. Preferably choose a sunny spot but do not place under or in artificial light and avoid placing where the rain can directly access the box.
Hang the bat box with the supplied screws. In the back of the box, there is a "keyhole" where the mounted screw can be hooked. The pre-drilled hole in the landing board allows you to secure the bat box.
Preferably hang several boxes together. When placing in attics and stables, place the boxes as high as possible against the façade or posts - they should be hung at a minimum height of 3 meters (approx. 10 feet).
MAINTENANCE: The front panel can be removed for cleaning and inspection.
