The Schwegler 2FN Bat Box is a purpose-designed woodland roost developed specifically for bats and widely used in forests and parkland. Manufactured from durable Schwegler woodcrete, it provides a stable internal environment and long service life in exposed outdoor conditions.
The design incorporates two access points. Bats can land on the tree trunk and crawl into the rear entrance, or exit directly from the wide front opening. An internal intermediate floor offers additional protection from small predators, light and draughts. The domed roof increases usable internal height, making it suitable for larger bat species.

Records show that up to 28 noctule bats with 9 young have been documented occupying a single 2FN box where habitat conditions are suitable.
Siting Guidance
- Especially suitable for forests and parks
- Install on trees at a height of 3–6 metres
- Preferably position in open, sunny locations
- Ensure a clear flight path to entrances
Once bats have inhabited a roost site, disturbance is only permitted by licensed bat workers.
Maintenance
The open-bottom cavity allows droppings to fall clear, making the roost largely self-cleaning. Inspection and cleaning are recommended if the box becomes heavily occupied.

SITING: This type is especially suitable for forests and parks. The 2FN bat box should be sited in trees and is best positioned at a height of between 3 to 6 metres. Bat boxes should ideally be sited in open sunny positions. Please note that once bats have inhabited a roost site they may only be disturbed by licensed bat workers.
MAINTENANCE: The roost is largely self-cleaning, as the droppings can fall out of the bottom of the cavity. Nonetheless, checking and cleaning are recommended if the Bat Box is used by large numbers of Bats.
