The Ibstock Swift Eco Habitat is a discreet, built-in nesting box designed specifically for swifts and intended for integration into external walls during construction. Available with a choice of Smooth Red, Smooth Buff, or Smooth Blue brick facings, it blends seamlessly into modern and traditional brickwork while providing valuable nesting habitat for this declining species.
Swifts are highly colonial birds and often nest in close proximity to one another. Installing multiple boxes together can help encourage colony establishment and provide long-term nesting opportunities within new developments and renovation projects.
Key Features:
- Designed specifically for swifts
- Built-in nest box for integration into external walls
- Choice of Smooth Red, Smooth Buff, or Smooth Blue brick finish
- Discreet appearance suitable for modern developments and conservation projects
- Fully frost resistant clay brick construction
- Long life expectancy of approximately 150 years
- Maintenance-free once installed
Swifts spend most of their lives airborne and return to the UK each summer from Central and Southern Africa to breed. Traditionally, they nested within gaps and cavities in older buildings, particularly beneath eaves and roof spaces. Modern construction methods and building renovations have significantly reduced available nesting opportunities, contributing to widespread population declines across the UK.
Integrated nest boxes such as the Ibstock Swift Eco Habitat provide a long-term solution by incorporating dedicated nesting spaces directly into the building fabric.

Siting:
The Swift Eco Habitat should be installed close to the eaves of a building at a minimum height of 5 metres above ground level. Swifts require clear flight access and typically enter and leave nest sites at speed, so adjacent airspace should remain unobstructed.
Ideally, boxes should be positioned on elevations that receive some shade during the hottest part of the day, or beneath overhangs or eaves. Avoid installation directly above windows, vents, or areas with regular disturbance.
Care should also be taken to minimise access by predators such as cats, squirrels, corvids, and rats.
Maintenance: Maintenance-free once installed.
MATERIAL: Brick/clay
DIMENSIONS (MM): 327 x 140 x 140
DURABILITY: Frost resistant
WEIGHT (KG): 4.5
LIFE EXPECTANCY: 150 Years
COLOURS: Blue, Buff, Red
SPECIES: Swift
SITING: Site near the eaves. They should be fitted either on a side of the building that gets some shade during the day, or under an overhang or under the eaves, to give protection from heat, but not over windows or near to vents.
They should be sited at least 5 metres above ground, with clear adjacent airspace so the Swifts can access them in high-speed direct flight (they usually fly straight in and out).
Make sure that predators (cats, crows, magpies, squirrels, and rats) do not have easy access (e.g by climbing up creepers or flying in from close perches).
MAINTENANCE: Maintenance-free
