The Large Colony Bat Box is designed to provide roosting space for large maternity colonies of crevice-dwelling bats, particularly common and soprano pipistrelles. It has plenty of space for maternity colonies of several hundred bats.
Constructed from FSC-certified exterior-grade plywood, the box features precision-cut panels to create a dry, draught-free environment. The internal space is divided into three crevices, offering a total internal volume of 0.019m³.
The inside temperature of the bat box makes a big difference to the bats, so the Large Colony Bat Box has concrete encapsulated wood wool dividers and black external colouration, to warm up faster and maintain a more stable internal temperature than other boxes. Each crevice is designed to "run" at a slightly different temperature, so that the bats can choose the exact temperature they prefer.

Siting & Installation
The box can be mounted on buildings or trees. Position as high as possible in a sheltered, sunny location. Installing multiple boxes with different aspects can provide a range of conditions.
Bats may take time to occupy new boxes, and signs of use can include droppings below the entrance or activity at dusk.
All bats and their roosts are legally protected. Inspection of bat boxes should only be carried out by appropriately licensed individuals.
