The Echo Meter Touch 2 PRO is a compact, plug-in bat detector designed for professional bat survey work. It connects directly to a compatible smartphone or tablet, allowing you to listen to, record, and analyse ultrasonic bat calls in real time using the free Echo Meter Touch app.

Engineered for researchers and ecological consultants, the PRO model features a low-noise microphone, adjustable gain settings, and higher sample rates, enabling high-quality recordings with reduced background noise and improved detection of quiet or distant echolocations.

Using patented Real-Time Expansion (RTE) technology, the Echo Meter Touch 2 PRO converts ultrasonic calls into audible sound while maintaining their timing and tonality. Recordings can also be viewed as real-time spectrograms and stored as full-spectrum WAV files for further analysis.

For a full comparison between the Standard and PRO models, view the Echo Meter Touch 2 Comparison Chart.

Key Features:

  • Connects directly to compatible devices via USB-C
  • High-fidelity recordings with low-noise microphone
  • Adjustable gain settings (3 levels) for improved control
  • Sample rates of 256kHz or 384kHz at 16-bit
  • Real-Time Expansion (RTE), heterodyne, and time expansion listening modes
  • Real-time spectrogram display within the app
  • Bat Auto-ID suggests the two most likely species
  • Customisable trigger settings to reduce unwanted noise
  • Records full-spectrum WAV files (manual or triggered)
  • View recording locations and paths on a map
  • Share recordings via email or messaging

App & Functionality

The Echo Meter Touch app (available for Android and iOS) allows users to configure recording settings, view and analyse recordings, and manage survey data. Features include adjustable trigger sensitivity, gain control, and scheduling options, as well as the ability to add voice or text notes to recordings.

Bat Auto-ID classifiers are available for the United Kingdom and other regions, providing on-the-spot species suggestions based on recorded echolocation calls.

Compatibility

Requires an iOS or Android device with a USB-C port. iOS devices with a Lightning port are incompatible (even with an adapter). Android devices with a Micro-USB port require the use of an approved adapter. A USB-C extender adapter is included with purchase to allow for use with phone/tablet cases.

FAQs
Q. What are the capabilities of Auto-ID?
A. Auto-ID is intended for use in analysing recordings of single bats in free flight in low-clutter environments, rather than during roost emergence, whilst social calls are being made, or when you have multiple or captive bats. The Auto-ID doesn't include every possible bat for each region and will be identified as the species with the most similar call. Bats vary their echolocation calls in response to a wide variety of needs, no automated call identification can achieve 100% accuracy in species identification and should not be relied on as a basis for scientific research. Nevertheless, in the hands of well-trained experts, bat detector recordings can be used to identify many species, providing invaluable discoveries. The Echo Meter Touch allows high-quality recording suitable for analysis by experts.

Q. Are there certain requirements to use the path and recording location function?
A. Yes, this feature requires an Android device with GPS capability or a Bluetooth GPS receiver.

Q. Is there a maximum size limit to MMS attachments?
A. Yes, on Andriod devices this can vary between 0.3MB and 1MB. Recordings that are larger than the maximum size limit cannot be shared via MMS messaging.

Q. Do I need a connector?
A. The Echo Meter Touch 2 Pro requires an android or iOS device with USB-C connector. Android devices with a Micro-USB connector can be used with an adaptor.

Q. What are the storage requirements?
A. This depends on the capacity of your device. 5-second recordings use 2.5 MB of storage. A 32 GB phone (with 28 GB of storage available) would be able to save 10,000 recordings. The app also needs at least 600 MB of internal memory storage. The app will warn you of insufficient storage.
