This highly sophisticated Schwegler 1WQ Bat Roost is designed for the safe hibernation of bats in winter as well as for roosting, forming of colonies and raising young during summer. The integrated insulation, in combination with the well-known advantages of woodcrete, is ideal for the needs of building-inhabiting bat species all year round.
The patented "double wall system" is already tested and proven for decades in our very successful Bat Hibernation Boxes 1FW, as used in many professional and scientific projects in forests all over Europe. With the 1WQ we can offer bats a roost for all-seasonal occupation in combination with an attractive design and very easy, fast and convenient installation.
The overall design and its combination of several insulating materials in a layer structure ensure outstanding insulating properties but still guarantees sufficient air-convection and permeability. The extremely durable material will last for many decades providing shelter for the bats - maintenance-free. By the way, the insulation will not only protect the bats in cold winter but also prevent an overheating during summer, e.g. when installed in very sunny, exposed spots.
Dimensions: 58 x 38 x 12 cm.

Installation: Using the four screws and plugs provided (see pic. 2). For easy installation, the 1WQ is detachable into two parts. First the base is screwed to the wall. After that, the front-cover with the bat-silhouette is attached, covering the mounting screws. The 1WQ can be easily attached to most types of external brick, timber or concrete walls. It will also attract bats if it is placed inside a roof space or inside historic buildings. When it is fixed to timber we recommend that the gaps between the wall and the box are sealed with silicone to prevent moisture being trapped.
Installation height: Position 3 metres or higher above the ground in a place where there is clear flight path for bats entering and leaving the box.
Siting: All kinds of buildings (e.g. made of concrete, stone, brick or timber). Successfully used in and on bridges, historic and modern multi-storey buildings, industrial sites, churches and structures for power and energy supply.
Maintenance-free: Self-cleaning and thus completely maintenance-free.

Interior: The interior is designed with different surface textures and areas with changing hanging depths. This makes it easy for the different bat species to find ideal hanging places which correspond to their individual size, preferences and the climatic situation throughout the year.
Exterior: The 1WQ comes with a decorative bat-silhouette on the front showing its purpose to us humans. The entrance area and the lower part of the front cover have an especially structured surface to allow the bats good hold and grip during their approach and while entering the unit. The wide arched entrance section with integrated steps guides the way to the inside and therefore accelerates the occupation of the 1WQ, e.g. by inexperienced young bats.
Colour: The 1WQ is delivered with a light-grey coating. If desired it can be over-painted with an air-permeable standard paint, e.g. to match the colour of the background wall.
Material:The box is made in special weather-resistant, air-permeable and rot-proof SCHWEGLER light-concrete. Because this material is so long-lasting, and because the design is very high quality, the box will help bats for many decades. All metal parts are rust-resistant.
Occupants: Typical building-inhabiting bat species like Pipistrelle, Serotine Bat or Parti-coloured Bat, etc. In areas with existing bat-colonies also Noctules or Bechstein´s bat.
External dimensions: H 58 x W 38 x D11,5 cm
Weight: approx. 21 kg (detachable into two parts for easy installation)
