The Green&Blue Bee Block (Small) is a compact nesting block designed to provide safe nesting habitat for solitary bees. Suitable for use in gardens, allotments and landscaping features, it can be used freestanding or built directly into walls as part of new builds, extensions or retrofit projects.
Designed and made in the UK by Green&Blue, this small-format block offers a long-lasting nesting space for cavity-nesting solitary bees. These bees do not produce honey and have no queen to defend, making them non-aggressive and safe to encourage around children and animals.
Design & Use
The Bee Block contains moulded cavities where solitary bees lay their eggs. Entrances are sealed by the bees using mud or chewed vegetation, depending on species. Adult bees emerge the following spring and the nesting cycle continues.
The block can be used on its own or combined with other Bee Blocks in the range, where different sizes can be stacked together to create varied nesting features.
Construction
The Bee Block can be built directly into walls using mortar or positioned freestanding in gardens and outdoor spaces. Its size makes it suitable for small-scale projects as well as larger landscaping and construction schemes.
Siting & Positioning
For best results, the Bee Block (Small) should be positioned in a warm, sunny location facing south, with no vegetation blocking the nesting cavities. It should be installed at least 1 metre above ground level, with no maximum height.
