The Green&Blue Beepot Mini is a compact combined solitary bee house and concrete planter, designed for use in gardens, allotments and small urban spaces. Its smaller size makes it suitable for balconies and locations where space is limited, while still providing nesting habitat for solitary bees.
The Beepot Mini is designed and made in the UK by Green&Blue and follows the same design principles as the larger Beepot, bringing nesting space and planting together in a single structure.
Solitary bees rely on small cavities in soil, wood and masonry to complete their life cycle. In gardens and urban areas, these features are often lost through hard landscaping and modern building practices. Providing a dedicated nesting space alongside bee-friendly planting helps support local solitary bee populations by meeting both their nesting and foraging needs in the same location.
Materials
The Beepot Mini is made from cast concrete. Green&Blue use up to 75% waste material from the Cornish china clay industry in the concrete mix.
Design and function
The bee house section contains multiple cavities where solitary bees lay their eggs, sealing the entrances with mud or chewed vegetation. Offspring emerge in the spring and repeat the nesting cycle. The integrated planter allows pollinator-friendly planting to be positioned alongside the nesting site, helping to provide a nearby food source.
Suitable species
The Beepot Mini provides nesting cavities for solitary bees, particularly species such as red mason bees and leafcutter bees. Solitary bees do not live in hives, do not produce honey and are non-aggressive, making them safe to encourage around children and pets.
Siting and positioning
Position in a warm, sunny location, ideally south facing, with no vegetation blocking the nesting holes. It is recommended to place the Beepot Mini at least 1 metre above ground level.
Maintenance
The Beepot Mini is designed to be low maintenance. Nesting activity can be observed throughout the season, with bees emerging naturally in spring. No regular cleaning is required.
Fire Rating
The concrete used to manufacture the BeePot Mini has been independently tested to EN 13501-1 and achieves an A1 fire classification. This confirms the material is non-combustible and does not contribute to fire growth or spread. The Beepot mini is designed and made by Green and Blue in the UK.
