Why do we need to protect bats?
Bats play an important role within our environment. As well as performing some pollination, bats are a natural control of insect populations as these are their main food source. Bats are also a good indicator species of environmental health, with changes in populations reflecting local biodiversity.

SITING: This Build-in WoodStone Bat Access Panel is specifically made to provide access to bats in the cavity wall, this can be used for new construction or renovation. It is recommended that multiple access panels are used per location.
The box can be situated in any direction, however, the southern side is most preferred. Place the box as high as possible in the façade, it should be at least 3 meters (approx. 10ft) high. Where possible, it should be placed on a façade exposed to the sun in the afternoon through to early evening with a clear flight path to the box. Where bats are, one can find droppings, the entrance should therefore not be placed above a door, window, or balcony. Do not place the entrance panel under or in artificial light, and avoid placing where the rain can directly access the box.
MAINTENANCE: Bats and their homes are protected by law so it is important not to disturb them. The Bat Block does not require maintenance as the design allows droppings to fall from the entrance.
