Schwegler 1FTH Universal Summer Bat Box

The Schwegler 1FTH Summer Bat Box is a universal summer roost designed for use in woodland, parks, and on buildings or other structures. It provides a range of internal roosting areas for different bat species, with interconnected chambers that allow bats to move between hanging areas within the box.

The 1FTH has been developed with five roost chambers, each offering different spatial and climatic conditions. Narrow, tapered areas provide suitable roosting spaces for smaller species such as Pipistrelle, Soprano Pipistrelle and Whiskered Bats, while larger internal areas are suitable for species such as Serotine and Common Noctule.

The breathable Schwegler wood-concrete material helps regulate moisture within the roost, storing surplus moisture and releasing it during dry periods. This supports a balanced internal microclimate for individual bats and larger groups.

Suitable Species

In woodland settings, the 1FTH may be used by woodland bat species such as Brown Long-eared Bat, Nathusius’ Pipistrelle, Brandt’s Bat and Common Noctule. When installed on buildings or structures, it may be used by species such as Serotine Bats and Pipistrelle Bats.

Siting & Installation

The 1FTH can be installed in woodland, parks, or fixed to building façades and other structures, including bridges, viaducts and internal building spaces such as attics.

The box should be installed at least 3m above ground level. The supplied fixing bracket is secured to the chosen surface with screws, and the roost is then hung onto the bracket.

Maintenance

The Schwegler 1FTH is self-cleaning and does not require routine cleaning. It cannot be opened, but inspection can be carried out from underneath using a torch or mirror.
